As head of the Supply Chain Center, Tom Balzer is responsible for the eBusiness; customer service; logistics operations; logistics strategy and procurement; supply chain center of experts; international trade compliance; product planning and credit and collection functions of Covestro LLC in North America. He is also a member of the company’s North American Leadership Team.
Tom joined Bayer in 1986 as a programmer analyst in the Information Technology (IT) group. Since then, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in supply chain logistics, customer service and order fulfillment. In January 2008, Tom led the Supply Chain Transformation initiative, successfully implementing a new supply chain model that emphasized simplification, standardization and automation.
Most recently, Tom served as head of Customer Service, eBusiness and the Supply Chain Center of Experts for the NAFTA region.
In addition to his daily job responsibilities, Tom serves as the executive sponsor of LINKS, a networking group designed to connect the newer generation of employees with the Bayer community. Tom also represents Covestro on ACHIEVA’s Business & Industry, Financial, and Professionals (BIFP) Committee of the ACHIEVA Capital Campaign Cabinet. ACHIEVA is a voluntary, non-profit association that provides innovation in support of people with disabilities. Tom is also on Advisory Board for the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration Center for Supply Chain Management.
Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in business education and systems from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also earned his master’s in business administration from Duquesne University, with an emphasis on corporate information systems and international business.
Currently, Tom lives in Beaver Falls, Pa., with his wife.
