Company singled out at American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® Conference & Expo

Pittsburgh, April 28, 2016 — Covestro LLC, a leading North American producer of high-performance polymers, has been singled out for two major awards at the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) annual Responsible Care® Conference & Expo, held this week in Miami.

Covestro was one of only two companies to receive a Product Safety Award, which recognizes member organizations that have excelled at driving continuous improvement in their product safety and stewardship programs. Covestro was also one of 41 companies to earn the Responsible Care® Facility Safety Award for several of its plant sites, presented to member companies for achievements in employee health and safety performance.

“Rooted in our history as Bayer MaterialScience, product safety and stewardship has always been central to our business,” notes Jerry MacCleary, president of Covestro LLC. “While Covestro as an independent company is just a few months old, our commitment to Responsible Care® is ongoing and remains as strong as ever. I applaud our employees who fulfill this commitment each and every day.”

According to Lisa Marie Nespoli, manager, Product Safety and Stewardship, Covestro LLC, the principles of product safety and stewardship are integrated throughout the business in numerous ways. These include Covestro’s overall leadership team goals, executive commitments and position statements, a dynamic cross-functional product stewardship team, and a company-wide core process devoted to product stewardship.

“Based on this strong foundation and management support, we have been able to push this commitment deep into the business model, and establish product stewardship and sustainability as core tenets of innovation at Covestro globally,” she explains.

At the annual Responsible Care® Conference & Expo the ACC honors chemical industry leaders for outstanding work in chemical management, including environmental, health, safety and security performance. Award winners qualify based on exemplary performance and are selected by a committee made up of internal and external experts. The Responsible Care® Awards Program was developed to recognize companies that exemplified leadership and outstanding performance based on the implementation and execution of the Responsible Care program.
