Pittsburgh, March 13, 2018 — For more than 50 years, manufacturers have turned to Makrolon® polycarbonate from Covestro. This high-quality material provides impact resistance, clarity, dimensional accuracy and thermal stability for a variety of applications across multiple industries including medical, automotive and lighting. With a new portfolio of thermally conductive (TC) polycarbonate materials, Covestro is providing more options for cost-effective and reliable thermal management.
Terry Davis, principal engineer, Covestro LLC will present “Thermally conductive polycarbonate polymers for improved thermal management in LED lighting solutions” at Conductive Plastics 2018 in Pittsburgh. On Tuesday, March 20 at 12 p.m., Davis will discuss how the wide range of thermal conductivity, processing methods and electrical insulation available with Makrolon® TC polycarbonate allows designers to integrate components. He will also cover how they can balance heat management and production methods to optimize cost and application performance.
Makrolon® TC polycarbonate grades offer unique opportunities for weight, cost and performance optimization. When compared to traditional plastics, these durable materials can provide increased thermal efficiency and can be processed using injection molding or profile extrusion.
Additional advantages of Makrolon® TC polycarbonate include:
- Improved dimensional stability
- Elimination of secondary operations
- Potential for electronic integration
